What Are The 4 Technical Pillars?

4 Technical Pillars are at the core of my work.

By understanding them you will see where you are and what’s a good idea to work on next in your dancing depending on what your unique strengths and weaknesses are.

4 PILLARS

  1. MUSICALITY - Hear first. For what is dance if we are not connected to the music. Everything you do should “make sense” to the music.

  2. SOLO TECHNIQUE/BODY-CONTROL - Prepare your body for moves and expression you want to be able to do.

  3. MOVES/VARIATIONS - Understand the moves, create variations, build your unique library of expression.

  4. LEADING/FOLLOWING - Learn the signals and how they work so you can clearly communicate with the other person. This is what cements everything together.

If we neglect any of these pillars, our dance, no matter what style it is, will not really work that well.

We should equally build them up. Because lack of ability in one will hinder all others. And likewise, strengthening one will make it easier to improve in others.
